Abstract:
5G is live, so what now? Join us for a tour of Ericsson’s North America Imagine Studio and Utilities Innovation Center. We will imagine together what is possible with cellular connectivity and see how holographic communication might be just around the corner. In an enterprise context, we’ll demonstrate how surveillance can be augmented with real time analytics, as well as how ultra-reliable sensors can provide early warning and life-saving capabilities. In the roundtable on Integrating New Disruptive Technologies into Your Innovation Portfolio we will jointly brainstorm how your innovation portfolio and applications can leverage mobile connectivity to become more powerful – and what a fully connected future might look like.
Demonstrations:
2. Transformer Monitoring: As utility grid modernization progresses, today’s smart grid is becoming more complex as many new use cases are creating challenges for an adapting infrastructure. The deployment of cellular private networks is enabling innovative, cost-effective solutions for Electric Utility Operators. For example, the addition of distributed generation by roof-top solar cells is causing equipment, such as distribution transformers, to be stressed in new and unique ways. Wireless health monitoring of grid devices can flag the timing for preemptive maintenance, or identify an impending failure, thereby minimizing any disruption to customers due to a loss of electric service.
3. Substation Surveillance & Arc Detection: The placement of surveillance cameras is simplified when using wireless backhaul of the video feed by private and secure cellular networks. There are significant benefits to video surveilling a utility substation for intruders, or for adverse events such high voltage arching. However, video traffic can congest a network. The application of AI to edge devices such as cameras to identify threats, and message an alarm with relevant data such as a short clip of video, will facilitate advanced capabilities without over taxing the cellular network.
4. Pole Tilt Detection & Air-Quality (Smoke) Detection: The distribution of monitoring sensors can have a big impact. For example, tracking utility pole tilt and vibration using solar-powered cellular IoT devices can identify the location of electric line breaks which can lead to fires. Likewise, air-quality sensors can detect smoke indicating a likely fire in the vicinity of the sensor.
Key Take-Aways:
- Insight on future technologies with quantifiable business returns and why we need to apply them
- Fresh perspective on how mobile connectivity can accelerate and amplify existing stationary and unconnected use cases, much like the transformation from manual to digital
- Insight on how deployment of private cellular networks can enable innovative ways of solving challenges posed when adopting new technologies
- Proven ways the AI application to edge devices such as cameras can provide advanced capabilities while also reducing upstream network traffic
An Executive Roundtable on integrating new disruptive technologies into your innovation portfolio is to immediately follow the Virtual Site Tour – jointly brainstorm how your innovation portfolio and applications can leverage mobile connectivity to become more powerful – and what a fully connected future might look like.
